Setting the Table for a Thankful Good Time
November 19, 2024 – Deb Uglem
The best part of Thanksgiving, other than the people, is definitely the table. It's where the magic happens. I love everything about it. The people, the food, the conversation, the plates, the centerpiece and of course the wine. And what better way to set the mood for a memorable Thanksgiving than with a stunning table setting? This year, why not embrace the eclectic charm of mixing old and new?
A Juxtaposition of Old and New
It’s a fancy word for a whole lot of fun! I love the idea of mixing vintage pieces with modern elements. It adds a unique and personal touch to the table. Something unexpected, my Grandma’s china paired with my polka dot plates and my wedding china. If you look around your house I am sure you have endless combinations, too.
Here’s some ideas to get you started:
- Base: A crisp white linen tablecloth
- Dinnerware: A mix of vintage china patterns, such as floral and geometric designs.
- Placemats: Woven or embroidered placemats in natural tones.
- Centerpiece: A wooden bowl filled with colorful fall leaves and a few candles.
- Napkins: Linen napkins tied with a twine bow.
Remember, the key to creating a successful eclectic table setting is to have fun and experiment. Don't be afraid to mix and match different styles and colors. By adding a touch of personality to your table, you can create a truly memorable Thanksgiving feast.
So, grab your fine china, your garage sale finds, and your everyday dishware and mix up Thanksgiving feast. Finish the day with football, pie, and Christmas movies and its perfection.
