Hosting Thanksgiving: A Stress-Free Guide

I love throwing a party, especially Thanksgiving. There’s nothing better than a house full of people, good food, and great conversation. I want everyone to feel relaxed and comfortable, like they can sit wherever they want and grab a drink whenever they please. But let’s be real, I’d rather be sipping a mimosa and watching the parade than slaving away in the kitchen. No thanks to basting a turkey every 15 minutes!

Let’s face it, Thanksgiving can be a lot. Between the cooking, the cleaning, and the company, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. But fear not, friend! With a little planning and some quick tips, you can host a stress-free Thanksgiving that everyone will enjoy.

Here are my top 5 tips for a smooth sailing Thanksgiving.

1. Chef Costco to the Rescue: Who needs a fancy French chef when you have Costco? Their mashed potatoes are the bomb, their salads are fresh and flavorful, and let’s not forget the wine!

2. Divide and Conquer: If they offer. Accept. Don’t be afraid to delegate! If your son-in-law offers to make the turkey, let him ( that’s what’s happening in my house this year). If your mom wants to bring the pie, one less thing for you to do.

3. Plan Ahead: The worst feeling is realizing you forgot the rolls the night before Thanksgiving. Yikes! To avoid this disaster, plan your menu, make a grocery list (check it twice). And here’s a pro tip: check out local stores that offer online ordering. You can order your bread ahead of time and just pick it up, making your life so much easier.

4. Set the Stage: Get your house ready for company. Set the table, stock the bar cart, and make sure you have plenty of cozy blankets and pillows for when the football game starts and the Christmas movies starting running.

5. Make Life Easy on Yourself: The last thing you want to do after a long day of cooking is a mountain of dishes. So, make sure your dinnerware is dishwasher safe. I have to admit I am not a fan of paper plates (dishes are my life) but you do you!

Next week, we’ll dive into Thanksgiving table settings. ‘Cause let’s be real, a beautiful table can make all the difference!

Until then, happy planning!
